Some stock market investors are busy determining whether or not the Indian stock market will be closed tomorrow since Ganesh Chaturthi 2023 will happen on September 19th of that year.
There is some stock market news for investors who are unsure as to whether trading on the BSE and NSE will be active on Tuesday or not. According to the BSE website, bseindia.com, which has a list of stock market holidays in 2023, trading on the NSE and BSE will be suspended on Tuesday in observance of Ganesh Chaturthi.
The one stock market holiday in September 2023 is Ganesh Chaturthi. The following market holiday is set for October 2, 2023, in observance of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.
The last time the stock market was closed was on August 15, 2023, in observance of National Independence Day. Therefore, trading in the stock, equity derivative, and SLB segments will be suspended on Tuesday.

In fact, the entire list of stock market holidays for 2023 indicates that the currency-deriving area would be closed as well. Due to the Ganesh Chaturthi celebration falling on Tuesday, trading in the commodities futures market and Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) may also be impacted. Trading in the commodities derivative section will not be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM but will open again at 5:00 PM for the evening session.
Therefore, trading in the commodities section will be stopped from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the morning but will continue to be open from 5:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
Six of the 15 declared stock market holidays for 2023, including Ganesh Chaturthi, are still in effect. After Ganesh Chaturthi, there will only be five stock market holidays left:
- Christmas (25 December 2023)
- Gurunanak Jayanti (27 November 2023)
- Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti (2 October 2023)
- Dussehra (24 October 2023)
- Diwali Balipratipada (14 November 2023).
Thus, two stock market holidays will fall in the month of October 2023 and two in the month of November 2023.
